As part of its anniversary celebration, HMSC is excited to offer free admission at two of its museums during ArtsThursdays. From 5:00–9:00 pm on the last Thursday of the month during the academic year, visitors can enjoy free admission to the Harvard Museum of Natural History and the Peabody Museum of Archaeology & Ethnology as part of Harvard University’s ArtsThursdays initiative supported by the Harvard University Committee on the Arts (HUCA). All are invited to celebrate HMSC’s anniversary on the April 27 ArtsThursday, featuring treats, signature drinks, museum swag, special activities, and raffles to win museum gifts.

“We trust that this season’s suite of public programs, evening lectures, special anniversary-branded events, gallery tours and exploratory activities, signature festivals, new and permanent exhibitions, and much more will provide our guests with many opportunities to immerse themselves in the wonders of the museums as we celebrate this milestone,” said Brenda Tindal, Executive Director of HMSC and recently appointed Chief Campus Curator for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

Throughout the year, HMSC has planned a variety of events to celebrate this milestone, including a just-opened photographic exhibit in the Harvard Museum of Natural History lobby featuring highlights of the last ten years of HMSC. Visitors can also join HMSC for Science Spotlights (a monthly series of short talks by up-and-coming scientists).

Other upcoming events include the opening of Shehuo: Community Fire, a bilingual photographic exhibition by Robert Gardner Fellow Zhang Xiao in May with a related public event featuring the artist, and the popular Summer Solstice celebration on the longest day of the year, June 21. Looking ahead to the fall, HMSC is planning an exhibition on surveillance at the Collection of Historical Scientific Instruments and new tourmaline specimens in the Earth and Planetary Sciences gallery at the Harvard Museum of Natural History.

Since its founding, HMSC has hosted a variety of exhibits, including the recent Sharks and In Search of Thoreau’s Flowers exhibitions now on view.
