About the Artist
Agua, Sol y Sereno (ASYS), founded by Pedro Adorno Irizarry and Cathy Vigo in 1993, is a Puerto Rican theater collective that embraces a variety of artistic disciplines within theater, such as painting, dance, music, and writing. Their creative workshops explore the concerns and imagination of people of all ages in all kinds of communities. ASYS has produced more than twenty original theater pieces rooted in deep ecological and historical awareness. Their parades and performance acts incorporate local and international themes. The group’s experimentation, grounded in the Caribbean and engaging with both the outer and inner worlds, generates significant cultural, artistic, and philosophical impact.
Pedro Adorno Irizarry, Founder and Artistic Director of Agua, Sol y Sereno (ASYS), is a film and theater director, actor, visual artist, and arts manager based in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He began his career in the 1980s with the group Los Teatreros Ambulantes de Cayey (The Traveling Theater-makers of Cayey), directed by Rosa Luisa Márquez and Antonio Martorell. In 1989, he relocated to Nicaragua to work with the cultural group MECATE, offering theater workshops in rural communities. Later, he moved to Vermont, where he worked for three years with Bread and Puppet Theatre. Back in Puerto Rico in 1993, he founded Agua, Sol y Sereno together with Cathy Vigo, where he engages with art through the creation of masks, sculptures, and visual arts. He has received various prizes for his cultural work. Adorno completed his Master’s in Art Education from Goddard College in Vermont and Seattle. Apart from holding his position as artistic director of Agua, Sol y Sereno, he works as a professor in the Master of Arts Management program at Puerto Rico University, Recinto de Río Piedras.

Sobre el artista
Agua, Sol y Sereno (ASYS), fundado por Pedro Adorno Irizarry y Cathy Vigo en 1993, es un colectivo teatral puertorriqueño que abarca una variedad de disciplinas artísticas dentro del teatro, como la pintura, la danza, la música y la escritura. Sus talleres creativos exploran las inquietudes y la imaginación de personas de todas las edades en comunidades de todo tipo. ASYS ha producido más de veinte piezas teatrales originales, con raíces en una profunda conciencia ecológica e histórica. Sus comparsas y actos escénicos incorporan temas tanto locales como internacionales. La experimentación del grupo, anclada en el Caribe y en diálogo con los mundos interior y exterior, genera un impacto significativo a nivel cultural, artístico y filosófico.
Pedro Adorno Irizarry, fundador y director artístico de Agua, Sol y Sereno (ASYS), es director de cine y teatro, actor, artista visual y gestor cultural radicado en San Juan, Puerto Rico. Comenzó su carrera en los años 80 con el grupo Los Teatreros Ambulantes de Cayey, dirigido por Rosa Luisa Márquez y Antonio Martorell. En 1989, se mudó a Nicaragua para trabajar con el grupo cultural MECATE, ofreciendo talleres de teatro en comunidades rurales. Luego, se trasladó a Vermont, donde trabajó durante tres años con Bread and Puppet Theatre. De regreso en Puerto Rico en 1993, fundó Agua, Sol y Sereno junto a Cathy Vigo, desde donde se conecta con el arte a través de la creación de máscaras, esculturas y obras visuales. Ha recibido diversos premios por su labor cultural. Adorno completó su maestría en Educación Artística en Goddard College, en Vermont y Seattle. Además de su rol como director artístico de Agua, Sol y Sereno, trabaja como profesor en el programa de Maestría en Gestión Cultural de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Río Piedras.
